Ultrasuede: In Search of Halston

The world of fashion and the gay community are inextricably linked so we thought it would be exciting to partner with Dublin’s fashion film club, FashionScreen, and present this fabulous 2010 documentary about America’s first celebrity fashion designer, Halston.

Ultrasuede charts the rise and fall (and rise and fall again) of Roy Halston Frowick, the man who defined the 1970s as the most glamorous decade of recent memory and came to be known, rightly so, as the emperor of NYC nightlife.

With contributions from a stellar line-up including André Leon Talley, Cathy Horyn, Anjelica Huston, Nile Rodgers, Diane von Fürstenberg and the legendary Liza Minnelli, the film pays homage to the simplicity and elegance of the Halston cut and aesthetic, examines his financial ruin and personal downfall and ultimately celebrates the man, the times in which he lived and the contributions he made to American fashion and popular culture.

There will be a post-screening panel discussion, entitled ‘The Glass Closet: Fashion Frees All’. Click here for more on the event.
