Slamdance International Festival 2009 hit, Drool, is a dark and witty flick with a rough edge, confirming Mulholland Drive's Laura Harring as a definitive lesbian icon for modern cinema. Harring plays Anora Fleece, mother to a colourful alternative family. Her tween-aged gay son is coming to terms with sex and dolls, her teenage daughter thinks the world around her is nothing short of a disaster, and her abusive husband is murdered upon the discovery of Anora's fledgling affair with a recently arrived neighbour, Imogene.
A Thelma and Louise versus Tales of the City-style road movie ensues, as this most definitely un-nuclear family set off to bury daddy and meet the mother of all make-over divas in a land most definitely over some kind of rainbow. Kissam's absurdist directorial approach is both parody and celebration as her central character and her offspring evolve towards a new life and values.
Best Fiction Feature, Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival 2009
