We’re thrilled to open GAZE 2019 with a film with a vibrancy and inclusivity that encapsulates everything joyous and thrilling about queer stories on screen.

Deep in Vogue is a riotous look at the Manchester vogue scene - a scene confined neither to the New York of the past nor a London enclave, but across the spectrum of Manchester’s queer scene, with a giant hit of Northern soul.

Richly detailing the history of ballroom culture for marginalised and POC communities, we meet an array of mothers and legendary children who find strength in their houses, whose balls are responses to the commercialisation of the gay

scene, the destruction of art spaces and a shrinking welfare state. Through social adversity they have come together in a neon lit haze of thumping bass-lines, sickening moves, love, joy and community. A feast for all the senses and a rousing call to arms, Deep in Vogue in the change we need to see in this world. SMcG.
