Light in the Water

Friday 2nd August

Light House Cinema

For many of us who still bristle at the memory of obligatory team sports at school, Light in the Water is a wonderful antidote: an inspiring and uplifting tale of friendship and love through sports.

In 1982, what is now known as West Hollywood Aquatics was created, an inclusive swim team that was a solace for so many LGBT people in Los Angeles. A truly heart-warming story of unity and triumph over adversity, West Hollywood Aquatics overcame homophobia, the tragedy of AIDS and injustices by major sports organisations to create the Gay Games, the international LGBT sports competition that is still going strong today. Featuring interviews with members and rich archive footage of the early days, Light in the Water is a touching and emotional documentary that will inspire you to joyously dive back into the pool.
