GAZE WORKSHOPS
TELLING YOUR STORY

We’re delighted to announce that GAZE Film Festival is partnering with Screen Skills Ireland on a new educational and training opportunity especially for filmmakers — a special workshop on developing LGBTQ+ stories in documentary and narrative film. These interactive, virtual classes will explore the challenges in telling LGBTQ+ stories and the ways to overcome them. Tutors will use well-chosen visual examples of what works in storytelling, as well as techniques to draw from personal experience.

The tutors, Anna Rodgers and John Butler, bring unique expertise. Explore Anna’s methods of telling other people’s stories in an honest and respectful way through documentary, and John’s experience shaping his own story through narrative film. This course will examine the many different journeys a writer, director or producer must go through to put their story on screen, including the tools you need and the questions you must ask to tell another person’s story. Learn to identify and dismiss cliché and bias, and find new and engaging ways to approach storytelling on screen.

These courses are aimed at both early-stage and established writers and directors. Please apply through here.
